Indian Choker and Bracelet
Description: Antique East Indian Dragon choker...
16 1/2"
Matching bracelet.........
6 1/2 " around inside
In Indonesia-about 3 hundred years ago...the Muslims invaded and forced the population to become Muslim or die.
The Royalty from the Majapahit Empire (an outstanding culture)...chose to flee to Bali with all their Artisans..which were and still are great.
The necklace and bracelet were either made in the town of Klung Kung in the west or Tjluk in the center of Bali...
The necklace is of the God- NAGA- a mythological water Dragon- meant to bring the wearer great fortune and happiness. Naga is a very auspicious-primal Dragon.
Naga or Naagaa, in the Lontar Siwagama, is used to symbolize the world. Naga means dragon, Naagaa (in Sanskrit) means the world.
The bracelet is actually older.
These pieces are made using the lost wax method with silver and gilded ...the stones are either zircons or Matara Diamonds...depending on whether they came from Burma or Sri Lanka.
Up until 30 years ago they were making knock offs of these, but anything like this has not been made anywhere in a long-long time.
